Memorial Day (previously, but now seldom, called Decoration Day) is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the military personnel who have died in the performance of their military duties while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
In the United States, typical Memorial Day activities include backyard BBQs and parades.
Traditionally, at Oceanview Manor Home for Adults we hold an outdoor BBQ, with all the fixings, under a tent with the backdrop of the Coney Island boardwalk. Music, fun and games are enjoyed by all.
The staff and residents of Oceanview Manor Home for Adults wanted to celebrate Memorial Day in a safe and responsible way during this time of COVID.
“We are living in very unusual times, we want to be creative in assuring our residents socialize and celebrate holidays and days that are meaningful to them, but we are committed to celebrating safely.” states Lisa Vider, Administrator of Oceanview Manor.
Oceanview Manor Home for Adults has decorated everyone’s door and all the common areas in red, white, and blue. Ms. Vider continues, “The outdoor BBQ may need to wait till next year, but our chef will still serve BBQ staples to all the residents.”
We wish each and everyone of you a safe, happy, and healthy Memorial Day!
